Assignments & Grading System
Assignments:
Participation 30 points-Students are expected to attend every class unless other arrangements have been made prior to the class meeting time that has resulted in an excused absence. Furthermore, all students are expected to participate meaningfully in the learning experience. Students will be expected to keep track of how they participate in each class. These notes will be submitted at the midterm and final exams to be compared with instructor's notes to determine participation grade.
Weekly Insights 10 points each-Engaging in womxnism is personal. Therefore, each week students will be expected to organize their thoughts, feelings, reflections, etc. of the readings, videos, music, and discussion from the previous class. Insights can take the form of a 300-500 word typed response or a 4-5 minute audio recorded response. This will be due 9am the day of class (Wednesdays).
Community Action Project 50 points-Engaging in womxnism also calls us to be communal. Therefore, students are expected to research a local grassroots organization/initiative that is grounded in womxnist theory and praxis. Students are expected to contact one (1) member of the organization/initiative, conduct an interview, and spend at least five (5) hours working in service to/of and/or fellowship with this organization/initiative in an appropriate and meaningful way. For the midterm, students will give a 15 minute presentation sharing their experience and connecting it to course material. Students will also submit a 2-3 page typed reflection on the day of the midterm.
Final Project 75 points-Students will organize weekly insights into a final project that will showcase their semester long journey of, in, and through womxinsm as a theory, praxis, personal experience and communal engagement. Projects can take the form of a 6-8 page typed paper, a song, a short film/play, podcast, 30 minute presentation or submission of a physical piece of art. More details will be shared in class.
